An alleged Rs.25 lakh scam was uncovered in Punjagutta. According to reports, a city-based businessman on Wednesday was conned out of Rs 25 lakh by a conman who was posing to be a bank official. According to police, the suspect promised to settle a pending loan amount.
The victim, V Ravi Kumar from KPHB, owner of a company in Punjagutta, along with his brother V Raghavender and other partners, borrowed nearly Rs.81 crore from a private bank.
In view of business losses and the pandemic, the company was unable to repay the loan amount in full. Following a series of discussions between the company and the bank, the latter had agreed to a one-time settlement of the debt. Ravikumar paid the bank the first instalment of Rs. 7 crores.
In spite of this, the suspect P Vikram approached Ravi Kumar and Raghavender claiming to be a bank consultant and liaison officer and assured them that he would settle the loan for Rs.47 crore following discussions with the bank officials. As his fee, he demanded Rs.25 lakh.
Since the complainant believed him, he gave the money. Ravi Kumar later went to the bank after several months of nothing happening to find that he was cheated. As soon as he contacted Vikram, the latter refused to return the money and started threatening him.
The Punjagutta police have filed a case and are looking into the matter.
