Hyderabad’s cab drivers, associated with ride-hailing services like Ola, Uber, and Rapido, have launched a protest against the existing fare structure by refusing to accept trips to and from Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) in Shamshabad. Their agitation has intensified as they now plan a ‘No-AC’ campaign to further reduce their operating costs.
The Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) has stated that around 40,000 drivers have joined the protest, citing unsustainable fare rates that have made it difficult for them to earn a decent livelihood. Despite multiple appeals to authorities, the fare structure remains unchanged, forcing drivers to take drastic measures.
Shaik Salauddin, founder-president of TGPWU, emphasized that while cab services continue within the city, airport trips have been deliberately boycotted. “The transport department had issued a government order for prepaid taxis, and we demand that it be implemented for all cabs, including aggregator platforms,” he told The Media.

With the strike in effect, passengers traveling to and from RGIA are facing significant difficulties in booking cabs, leading to long waiting times and higher surge pricing. Many commuters have been forced to seek alternative travel options, including RTC buses and private transport.
Drivers have warned of further escalation if their demands are not met, raising concerns about prolonged disruptions in airport travel. As the protest continues, authorities are under increasing pressure to address the grievances of cab drivers while ensuring smooth transportation for passengers.
