Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy announced a significant overhaul in the state’s higher education sector on August 26, revealing plans to appoint new vice-chancellors for all universities within the next 15-20 days. The announcement was made during an event held at the Dr. BR Ambedkar Telangana State Secretariat, where he also addressed other key educational reforms.
In addition to the vice-chancellor appointments, CM Revanth Reddy confirmed that the state will soon initiate the process to fill numerous teaching and non-teaching positions across universities. This includes the recruitment of assistant professors, professors, and other staff members. The move is part of a broader effort to enhance the quality of education and address staffing shortages in Telangana’s higher education institutions.
The event at the secretariat also saw the distribution of financial assistance under the ‘Rajiv Gandhi Civils Abhaya Hastham’ scheme. A total of Rs 1 lakh each was given to civil service aspirants who had passed the UPSC prelims. This initiative aims to support promising candidates as they prepare for the next stages of their examinations.

During his address, CM Revanth Reddy was critical of the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government, accusing it of neglecting the university sector and the broader education system. He alleged that this neglect had forced students to seek private education, which he described as an unsatisfactory alternative to state-supported institutions.
Revanth Reddy emphasized that the distribution of cheques at the secretariat was not only a gesture of support for civil service aspirants but also a reflection of the new government’s commitment to addressing public concerns and fostering transparency.
The Chief Minister’s remarks and the new appointments are expected to have a significant impact on Telangana’s educational landscape, with hopes of improved management and enhanced academic standards in the state’s universities.
This announcement comes as part of a larger set of reforms that the Telangana government plans to implement to improve various sectors within the state, signaling a renewed focus on education and public service.
