China Meets Taliban In Doha; Promises Humanitarian Aid

The Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi recently met Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the Taliban’s Acting Deputy Prime Minister in Doha. This is the first face-to-face talks held between the two nations since Taliba took over Afghanistan.

Afghanistan Is Facing Quadruple Challenges

During the meeting on Monday, Wang who is also the State Councillor said that Afghanistan is facing quadruple challenges that includes humanitarian crisis, terrorist threats, economic chaos and governance difficulties. This further demands more understanding and support from the international community.

He further expressed his hopes towards Taliban that they will further demonstrate openness and tolerance in uniting all the ethnic groups and factions in Afghanistan to work towards peaceful reconstruction and effective protection of the rights and interests of women and children.

He said that China has always respected Afghanistan’s sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity and supports the Afghan people to determine their own destiny and choose the path of development.

China Is Willing To Provide Humanitarian Aid

While talking about the humanitarian crisis in China, Wang urged the US and the West to lift the sanctions on Afghanistan and further called all the parties to engage with the Taliban. He said that the parties need to engagement with the Taliban in a rational and pragmatic manner to help Afghanistan start the journey of healthy development.

He further expressed that the China is willing to continue to provide the humanitarian aid to Afghanistan and help the country realise economic reconstruction and independent development.

Wang added that the East Turkestan Islamic Movement being listed as the international terrorist organisation by the UN Security Council poses a real threat to China’s national security but also threatened the domestic stability in Afghanistan. He added that he hopes that Taliban will make a clean break from other terrorist organisations and take effective measures.
