Hyderabad : Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has instructed the officials concerned to prepare a comprehensive plan to supply water for irrigation and drinking purposes in all the villages under the combined Nizamabad district.
The CM had a meeting with the Legislators from the combined Nizamabad district in the Chamber of Telangana State Legislative Assembly Speaker P Srinivas Reddy in the Assembly premises here on Thursday , the Chief Minister said since there was less availability of water in Nizamsagar and Singur projects this year, villages under the jurisdiction of these projects should be supplied water through alternative methods and the officers should prepare alternative/temporary plans. He also said in order to solve the issues pertaining to irrigation water, drinking water and Podu Bhoomulu (lands under shifting cultivation) he would visit the combined Nizamabad district for two days in the coming month and discuss the matter with the people.
The CM said since SRSP was linked to the Kaleswaram Project, there would not be any problem to the SRSP Ayacut in future. He said irrigation water should be supplied to Armoor, Balkonda and Banswada Assembly segments through Lifts as was done at Gutpa and Ali Sagar. The CM instructed the officials from the Irrigation department to get the survey done and prepare estimates, find out where to put the Lifts and to what extent of land water can be supplied in the villages. Since the government has decided to fill the SRSP with not less than 90 TMC of water, the CM said water should be supplied to the maximum extent from the SRSP to the Ayacut.
KCR said though tanks and reservoirs in the State are brimming with water, but for Singur and Nizam Sagar, adequate water did not reach them. Hence, alternative and temporary plans should be made for the supply of water to the villages under these two projects. The CM wanted water be drawn from various sources, from HMWS, from Pargi, Komati Banda, SRSP and any other source and supply to the villages. In other places, water should be supplied through tankers and from borewells. He said this problem would be there only for the year and by the next year; water will be supplied from the Mallanna Sagar to these two projects. Preparations should begin now so that people will not suffer during the coming summer.
He also said in the combined Nizamabad district, farmers doing shifting cultivation are facing problems and there are disputes between the Forest and Revenue departments. The CM assured that he would visit the combined Nizamabad district for two days next month and discuss with the locals and solve the issues pertaining to the Forest department. During the visit, the CM said programs for the permanent supply of irrigation and drinking water would also be launched.
