Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has issued stringent directives aimed at safeguarding government properties, canals, and ponds from encroachments, asserting that the newly-formed HYDRA (Hyderabad Disaster Response and Assets Monitoring and Protection) will play a pivotal role.
During a recent review session, he emphasized the imperative for HYDRA to efficiently manage and protect government assets. He instructed officials to promptly draft comprehensive organizational structures and operational procedures for HYDRA, with a target to finalize these before the commencement of the upcoming Assembly sessions starting on July 24th.
Revanth Reddy stressed that HYDRA must operate in accordance with the Central National Disaster Management Act, specifying staffing requirements and the need for departmental deputations. The operational scope of HYDRA will cover 2,000 square kilometers, encompassing Greater Hyderabad and the Outer Ring Road. He proposed aligning HYDRA’s operational zones with existing city divisions to optimize management and response capabilities.

In addition to disaster management, HYDRA’s mandate includes the protection of government properties, prevention of canal and pond encroachments, removal of unauthorized hoardings and flex banners, efficient traffic management, and ensuring adequate water and electricity supply. The responsibility for enforcement against illegal hoardings and fee collection will be consolidated under HYDRA, involving cooperation from GHMC, HMDA, Water Board, Vigilance, Traffic, Electricity, and Police departments.
Chief Minister Revanth Reddy underscored the need to restructure the Enforcement Vigilance and Disaster Management Department to enhance coordination and efficiency in Hyderabad’s governance framework.
