The Telangana Chief Minister KCR, who met his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar on Wednesday in an effort to enforce opposition unity, called for BJP mukt Bharat, blaming the BJP government at the center for causing many of the ills plaguing the country.
In a press conference with Kumar, whom he fondly called “bade bhai” (big brother), Rao brushed aside questions about who will lead a united opposition and whether the Congress would be included. In opposition to the BJP, Rao is one of the most vocal satraps.
In due course, these things will be decided. In response to questions about the prime ministerial candidate and the role of the Congress, to which Rao’s Telangana Rashtra Samiti is bitterly opposed, Rao said, “We are not in a hurry”.
The Narendra Modi government is responsible for “capital drain”, a term he coined to emphasize that businesses were withdrawing their money from the country because of the Center’s policies.
He also criticized the Modi government for introducing the “Agnipath” scheme without consulting the opposition.
In addition, TRS chief KCR slammed the Centre for going on a privatization spree and showing indifference towards states’ concerns, citing the example of “turning down” Bihar’s special category request.
KCR also mocked Modi for saying “Ab ki baar Trump sarkaar” during a visit to the US many years ago, calling it a “diplomatic blunder”.
Despite evading a direct question about whether the Bihar CM, who dumped the BJP earlier this month, could be considered as the opposition’s prime ministerial candidate, KCR said “Nitish Kumar is among the most senior and best leaders in our country.” We will think of these things later”.
KCR’s attempt to form a Third Front and storm into national politics in order to challenge the Narendra Modi-led BJP government is not unprecedented. He met with and discussed the idea with many regional leaders prior to the 2019 general elections.
