CM Orders CID Probe into CMRF Scam Involving 17 Hospitals

In a major development, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has registered cases against 17 hospitals across Telangana in connection with the CMRF (Chief Minister’s Relief Fund) scam. The hospitals, located in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy, Nalgonda, Karimnagar, and Mahbubabad districts, have been accused of submitting fraudulent bills and claims, drawing CMRF funds without providing any medical treatment to patients.

The scam, which has sent shockwaves across the state, was uncovered last year when the Revenue Department filed a complaint revealing that several hospitals were drawing CMRF funds based on false certification documents. The investigation conducted by the CID has since exposed the extent of the fraudulent activities, implicating not only hospital administrators but also local leaders and officials.

According to CID officials, the hospitals involved in the scam created fake bills and claims to siphon off CMRF funds. During the verification process, the true quality and operations of these hospitals were revealed, leading to the discovery of the fraudulent practices. Notably, in just two hospitals, administrators were found to have claimed approximately 6 lakh fake bills, a staggering number that highlights the magnitude of the scam.

The scandal first came to light when four individuals were arrested by the CPS police for their involvement in the same fraudulent scheme. The arrests led to further investigations, ultimately revealing the participation of several other hospitals and their staff in the conspiracy.

The CMRF, a crucial fund intended to provide financial assistance to patients requiring medical treatment, has been misused by these hospitals, resulting in significant financial losses for the state. The scam, which occurred during the tenure of the previous government, has now been thoroughly investigated under the directive of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, who ordered the CID to probe the matter.

In response to the findings, the CID has registered cases of forgery and cheating against the involved hospitals. The department has vowed to take strict action against those found guilty, ensuring that justice is served. The ongoing investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the scam and bring all responsible parties to account.

As the scandal continues to unfold, it has raised serious concerns about the integrity of the healthcare system in Telangana. The involvement of hospital staff, local leaders, and government officials in such a large-scale fraudulent operation has sparked public outrage and demands for stringent measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.

The CID’s crackdown on the CMRF scam is expected to lead to further arrests and legal actions as the investigation progresses. The government has also assured the public that it will take all necessary steps to recover the embezzled funds and restore trust in the healthcare system.

This scandal serves as a stark reminder of the need for robust oversight and accountability in the administration of public funds, especially those meant for the welfare of vulnerable citizens. As the investigation continues, the state of Telangana awaits the full disclosure of the scam’s details and the enforcement of justice.
