Coal pensioners to stage half-naked protest on Feb. 27 in Telangana

Hyderabad: Demanding that Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao help implement his promises made to SSCL pensioners in a public meeting in Srirampur on February 27 last year, the Telangana All Pensioners & Retired Persons’ Association on Tuesday announced that coal pensioners would stage a half-naked protest on February 27 at all the SCCL offices at Kothagudem, Illendu, Godavarikhani and Srirampur.

Speaking to media persons here today, Association president P Krishnamurthy, general secretary M N Reddy and Bhoopalapally committee secretary Ch Satyanarayana said the Chief Minister had assured the coal pensioners to provide free medical facilities, hike in pensioners’ pension to Rs 8,500 and double bed room houses, the SCCL management failed to implement the Chief Minister’s promises even after a year. Though the Chief Minister recently announced that old-age pension would be hiked to Rs 2016, the SCCL authorities said the coal pensioners were not eligible for the government pension of Rs 2016 as they were already getting pension from the company.

The association leaders bemoaned that though they submitted many representations, passing resolutions and staged collective dharnas at Singareni offices from September 26 to October 10, 2018, the SCCL management remained calm on the Chief Minister’s assurances to the coal pensioners. They also urged the Chief Minister to intervene and direct the SCCL management to fulfill his promise. (NSS)
