In Telangana, the Congress party has leveled significant allegations against the Rs 1 lakh aid scheme for minorities, alleging that it largely benefits workers of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party. According to Zaheer Akhtar, spokesperson for the Pradesh Congress Committee, the selection procedure for implementing the program, which vests full control in district ministers and assembly members, is biased in favor of BRS personnel.
According to Zaheer Akhtar, only 10,000 people are expected to receive aid from the Minority Finance Corporation out of the 2.5 lakh applications filed in fiscal year 2022-23. He emphasized that the 64 people from Mahbubnagar who received one lakh rupee subsidised loans with a 20% candidate share are all members of the ruling BRS.
The spokeswoman disputed the allegation made by Minority Finance Corporation Chairman Imtiaz Ishaq, who asserted that the initiative was implemented to help the impoverished. According to Zaheer Akhtar, the current selection method will deny around 230,000 people of relief funds, thereby favoring political workers ahead of the forthcoming assembly elections.
Zaheer Akhtar also noted the Congress party’s role in creating 4% reservations in employment and education for Muslims in order to alleviate their disadvantage. Former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy instituted this policy, which is still in effect today. In contrast, the BRS election campaign in 2014 promised 12% Muslim reservation, Waqf Board judicial power, and Urdu as the second official language, but none of these pledges were realized.
The spokesman challenged BRS leaders to an open discussion about the steps taken by the Congress government for the welfare of minorities, claiming that the Congress party has a long history of working for the upliftment of underprivileged communities. These claims underline the ongoing political tensions and discussions in Telangana concerning minority welfare and reservations as the state prepares for assembly elections.
