Congress condemns Modi’s remarks against Nehru

Hyderabad:  TPCC Treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy today condemned Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his atrocious remarks against first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru.

Addressing the media at Gandhi Bhavan on Friday, Narayana Reddy described Modi’s remarks against Pandit Nehru accusing him of dividing the nation to become Prime Minister as an insult for all the martyrs, who laid down their lives for independence. He said it was highly unfortunate that Prime Minister Modi made a false and irresponsible statement on the floor of Lok Sabha to score a point in the Delhi Assembly election.

Narayana Reddy reminded that Shyma Prasad Mukherjee, who later formed Jan Sangh, was the Industries Minister in Pandit Nehru cabinet. “It is ridiculous that followers of people who tried to betray freedom movement and acted as spies of British are now distributing certificates of patriotism. They are now questioning the intentions and ambitions of freedom fighters, who sacrificed everything for the country,” he said. He also condemned BJP leadership for not taking action against its MP Anant Kumar Hegde, who dubbed Mahatma Gandhi’s freedom struggle a ‘drama’. Similarly, he said, BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur repeatedly insulted Mahatma Gandhi by praising his killer Nathuram Godse. “BJP leadership did not take any action against the MPs, who tried to humiliate Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru or other freedom fighters.

Narayana Reddy also condemned Modi’s remarks on the process adopted to pass the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill in Parliament for the creation of Telangana State. He said Modi was not a Member of Parliament in 2013-14 and therefore, he might not be aware of what exactly happened in Parliament. He said it was the Congress-led UPA Government, which created Telangana State while BJP and other parties supported the move. He asked the BJP leaders to clarify whether or not they supported the formation of Telangana State. He said all doors of Parliament are closed before voting begins on a Bill. Therefore, he said no rules were violated to pass Bill for the formation of Telangana. “Modi is apparently against the division of Andhra Pradesh and therefore, he often refers to the process adopted to pass Telangana Bill,” he said.
