Congress leaders condemn midnight arrest of Revanth Reddy, slam EC

Hyderabad: Telangana Congress leaders today severely condemned the preventive arrest of TPCC working president A. Revanth Reddy by the police in the early hours. They described the arrest as “undemocratic and illegal.

Former APCC chief Ponnala Laxmaiah has asked what was the need for the police to break open bed room doors of Revanth Reddy and arrested him in the middle of the night. The ruling party was resorting to such arm-twisting tactics to scare its political rivals, he said, adding that the people of the State would teach a befitting lesson to Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and his party in the December 7 Assembly elections.

Taking serious exception to the arrest of Revanth Reddy in the middle of the night, former minister DK Aruna said it was undemocratic and illegal. She alleged that CM KCR and his party leaders were scared of a humiliating defeat in the elections. Stating that the people would not approve such illegal acts, Aruna alleged that the EC has become a mute spectator in the Kodangal Assembly constituency and was not taking any action against the ruling party leaders.

AICC secretary Madhu Yaski Goud alleged that the Election Commission has become an agent of the ruling TRS party. He alleged that the EC was acting in a partisan manner and favoring the ruling TRS party leaders. He alleged that those officials, who were benefited by the KCR government were resorting to such questionable acts.

TPCC working president Ponnam Prabhakar also condemned the arrest of Revanth Reddy. He said the people of the State were groaning under “feudal and autocratic” rule of KCR in the State. He also said the TRS leaders were resorting to such illegal acts as they were scared of defeat in the elections.  TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy warned that his party, if comes to power in the State, will not let those responsible for this action, go free.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said the midnight arrest of Revanth Reddy was yet another example of highhandedness of the State administration. He said the arrest was the result of Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao being afraid that his public meeting in Kodangal constituency would be a flop in the face of Revanth Reddy’s call to his cadres to protest against TRS.
