Congress Party Holds Protest Program for Farmers

Congress party today held a massive protest program in the city demanding the state and central governments to immediately procure paddy of the farmers of the state.

The party held a rally from public gardens to the Agriculture Commissioner officer.

TPCC Chief A. Revanth Reddy, CLP leader Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, MP N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, party leaders Damodar Rajanarasimha, MLA Seethakka, and others took part in the protest rally.

Speaking on the occasion, TPCC chief A. Revanth Reddy said that the condition of the paddy farmers had turned vulnerable and alleged that both central and state governments were blaming each other and escaping from their responsibility to come to the rescue of the farmers. He made it clear that paddy was part of the list of the 13 crops for which the central government had announced minimum support price.

He said that The state government was able to procure only 11 lakh metric tonnes of paddy so far and added that 4743 paddy procurement centers had been opened by the authorities for name’s sake. He also said that only ₹116 crores had been paid to the farmers instead of ₹2100 crore.

He said that lakhs of quintals of paddy were being damaged due to untimely rains. He said that farmers were committing suicides in state Minister KTR’s assembly constituency Siricilla. He alleged that the millers of the state had opened gates to loot the farmers.

CLP lease Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka asked the state government as to why the problems, which were not witnessed during the rule of previous governments, cropped in the present government’s rule. He wondered as to why the state government, which has the responsibility to procure the paddy, held a dharna program on the issue.

He alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched to help the corporate companies of the country by not procuring the paddy. He said both state and central governments were doing injustice to farmers by blaming each other.
