Controversy Arises Over SKN’s Comments on Telugu Actresses at ‘Return of the Dragon’ Event

The promotional event for the Telugu version of the Tamil film Dragon, titled Return of the Dragon, took a controversial turn when producer SKN made remarks about Telugu actresses that have since gone viral. The event, held in Hyderabad, was attended by the film’s cast, including lead actor Pradeep Ranganathan and female leads Anupama Parameswaran and Kayadu Lohar. However, it was SKN’s comments that captured the most attention.

While discussing his experiences following the success of his previous film Baby, SKN made a statement that appeared to be directed at Telugu actresses, specifically Baby actress Vaishnavi Chaitanya. Although SKN did not name anyone directly, it was widely speculated that his remarks were aimed at Chaitanya, who had worked with him on Baby.

During his speech, SKN shared, “We love non-Telugu-speaking girls so much more than Telugu girls. We realized what happens when we encourage Telugu girls in our films, so my director Sai Rajesh and I decided to encourage non-Telugu girls only.” He went on to compliment director Sai Rajesh for delivering a “cult film,” which many believe he was referring to Baby.

SKN’s comments have stirred debate within the Telugu film industry, with many questioning the motivations behind his statements. Some speculate that the remarks may be linked to a failed collaboration between SKN and Chaitanya on another project after the success of Baby. While SKN and director Sai Rajesh had announced a new film with the same pair—Anand Deverakonda and Vaishnavi Chaitanya—the project never materialized, and now the same pair is working with a different production house, Sithara Entertainments, on a new film. It’s believed that scheduling conflicts, with Chaitanya possibly unavailable for SKN’s project, could have sparked the producer’s comments.

In addition, SKN’s previous film, Taxiwala, also featured Telugu actress Priyanka Jawalkar in a key role, further complicating the context of his comments about Telugu actresses. Anupama Parameswaran, one of the lead actresses of Return of the Dragon, was notably absent from the event, while Kayadu Lohar attended. The absence of Parameswaran, combined with SKN’s controversial remarks, has fueled further speculation and debate.

As the controversy unfolds, SKN’s comments have become the talk of the industry, raising questions about the treatment and representation of Telugu actresses in the film industry. Return of the Dragon, which stars Pradeep Ranganathan, Anupama Parameswaran, and Kayadu Lohar, is set to release on February 21.
