Cops allegedly beat and torture SC man for tearing down BJP flexi

Keshampet police are accused of beating a Scheduled Caste (SC) man all night long and torturing him. According to reports, the youth, who is also a Congress worker, tore down a Flexi poster of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) state president Bandi Sanjay Kumar’s upcoming tour.

BJP leaders, he says, ordered police to pick him up on Tuesday night and beat him until Thursday morning.

The New Indian Express quoted DCP Madhapur K Shipavalli saying that an investigation would be conducted and stern action would be taken.

Srinu is seen in a video shared by Congress on Twitter on Thursday with dark bruises on his skin. Congress’ SC wing has demanded the suspension of Keshampet sub-inspector Srinu for beating him up.

Srinu’s cell phones were returned by the cops only in the afternoon of Thursday when he called Telangana Congress SC Vibhag N Preetham to describe his two-night ordeal in Keshampet police station.

Dalit organizations have been urged to rise to the occasion and see that Keshampet SI is suspended.

In a similar incident that took place last year, Royya Srinivasulu, 48, of the Scheduled Castes (SC) community, was allegedly tortured by the police in the Nalgonda district. The videos of police officers purportedly negotiating with Srinivasulu’s family members for a settlement went viral on social media after the alleged incident occurred in November.

Srinivasulu’s family stated that he was falsely implicated in a land dispute case and was taken to the Nalgonda Town-II police station in connection with the case, where he was tortured severely, causing a fracture in his right leg.

A.V. Ranganath, Superintendent of Police in Nalgonda, stated that Srinivasulu was involved in a cheating case and was summoned to the police station for serving notice but was let go. In addition, he clarified that a video circulated on social media platforms showing a man being beaten up by police was false.
