In a tragic incident in Uttar Pradesh’s Barabanki district, the bodies of a 22-year-old woman and her 28-year-old boyfriend were found hanging from a tree on Wednesday morning, just two days after the woman allegedly eloped with him during her wedding ceremony.
According to police, Shilpa Yadav and Bhanu Pratap Singh were discovered hanging from the same saree in a mango orchard, roughly 500 metres from Lalpur village in the Masauli area. The discovery was made around 7 a.m., following a tip-off from local residents.
Police recovered a three-page suicide note at the scene, along with Bhanu Pratap’s motorcycle. In the note, the couple expressed deep regret for their actions and indicated that they were ending their lives willingly. “If we cannot live together, we have decided to die together. We loved each other, so we will bear the consequences together. Papa, please forgive me,” the note read.

Officials confirmed that Shilpa Yadav was to marry Sunil Kumar, a resident of Pyarepur Saraiya village in the Safdarganj area, on May 5. However, she reportedly left with Singh during the dwar puja ritual, a part of the wedding festivities.
To avoid social embarrassment, Shilpa’s family went ahead with the ceremony by substituting her niece as the bride and completing the rituals with the groom.
Circle Officer of Ramnagar, Garima Pant, visited the scene with a forensic team and confirmed that preliminary findings suggest it to be a suicide linked to a romantic relationship. The bodies have been sent for post-mortem, and further investigation is ongoing.
