Amid growing concerns over a rise in Covid-19 cases across multiple Indian states, Telangana health officials have reassured the public that the current wave of infections in the state is not severe and does not require panic or drastic measures.
The Director of Public Health (DPH), Dr. B. Ravinder Nayak, clarified that the new Covid-19 cases being reported in the state are likely due to the ongoing seasonal transition from summer to monsoon, and the infections are mild in nature.
“At this juncture, we are waiting and monitoring the situation closely. While new Covid-19 cases are getting reported in other Indian States, so far the situation is under control. Even the positive cases are not that severe,” Dr. Nayak said.

According to the Public Health Department, Telangana currently does not see the need to launch mass testing or surveillance drives, as there is no advisory from the Union Health Ministry for increased monitoring. This decision comes even as other Indian states collectively report over 1,009 active Covid-19 cases and seven fatalities.
Nationally, ICMR Director-General Dr. Rajiv Behl also echoed similar sentiments, stating there is no reason for alarm. While he acknowledged the rise in infections, he clarified that the rate of increase is slow, unlike during previous Covid-19 waves when cases doubled rapidly.
“There might be a need for increased vigilance if there is a sharp surge, but currently the rise is gradual and not alarming,” Dr. Behl noted.
Dr. Nayak emphasized that Covid-19 is behaving more like a seasonal viral infection, and there’s no evidence to support the need for dedicated Covid-19 wards or beds, similar to how the healthcare system handles influenza and other seasonal illnesses.
“I don’t believe that there is any need to panic or take knee-jerk reactions. Despite reports of deaths, at present, the current cases are no cause of major concern,” he added.
As a precautionary measure, the general public is urged to follow basic health practices during the seasonal change. These include maintaining hygiene, staying hydrated, and avoiding exposure to sudden weather changes that may lower immunity.
With health authorities maintaining vigilance and readiness, Telangana continues to monitor the evolving Covid-19 situation while avoiding unnecessary public alarm.
