The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia announced on Tuesday that the crescent moon marking the beginning of Dhul Hijjah has been sighted, signaling the start of the Islamic month during which the annual Hajj pilgrimage is performed.
As per the official announcement, Hajj 2025 will commence on June 4, when pilgrims will gather in the Tent City of Mina. The Day of Arafah, one of the most significant days in the Islamic calendar, will fall on June 5, followed by Eid Al-Adha celebrations on June 6 for Muslims who are not performing Hajj.
The Supreme Court had earlier called on Muslims across the Kingdom to observe the sky on Dhu Al-Qa’dah 29 and report any sightings of the new crescent to the nearest court to confirm the start of the month.
In light of the occasion, the Kingdom has announced a weeklong holiday for both public and private sector employees to mark Eid Al-Adha.
Dhul Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic calendar, holds immense spiritual significance as Muslims across the world observe the pilgrimage rites and commemorate the devotion of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham) through Qurbani (sacrifice) on Eid Al-Adha.
