With many families heading out of town for summer vacations, the Cyberabad Police have issued a public advisory urging residents to take stringent home safety precautions to prevent thefts and burglaries during their absence.
DCP Crimes LC Naik stressed the importance of community vigilance and the need for residents to coordinate with local authorities and neighbors. “Unattended homes during summer holidays become easy targets for thieves. A few proactive steps can go a long way in deterring criminals,” said Naik.
Key Safety Measures Recommended by Cyberabad Police:
- Inform your local police station about your departure and return dates if your house will remain locked.
- Install central locking systems, motion-sensor alarms, and CCTV cameras at all entry and exit points.
- Cover windows and locked doors with curtains and keep lights switched on to create an illusion of occupancy.
- Do not leave milk packets, newspapers, or garbage outside, as these are clear signs of absence.
- Ensure all vehicles are properly locked, preferably kept within the compound and secured with wheel chains.
- Avoid hiding spare keys in common places such as shoe racks, flower pots, or dressing table drawers.
- Hire trusted security personnel or watchmen, and maintain a night visitor register in apartment complexes.
- Work with neighbors to form colony-level safety committees and support night patrolling initiatives.
