A building in Siddiquinagar, Gachibowli, dangerously tilted on Tuesday, raising serious concerns about the safety of illegal constructions in the area. The incident occurred when Yasin Khan, the owner of a neighboring plot, was digging a cellar as part of his construction work. Upon noticing the adjacent building tilting, Khan immediately alerted the Madhapur Police, prompting a swift response from local authorities.
Teams from the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), and the Fire Safety Department were mobilized to assess the situation. Preliminary investigations revealed that the building in question lacked necessary safety measures, raising alarm about the structural integrity of several illegal constructions in the area.
Real estate experts pointed out that many buildings in Siddiquinagar, including the one that tilted, violate construction regulations. The building, a G+4 structure, was built on just 50 to 60 square yards—far below the permissible limit for such constructions, which is typically limited to a G+1 structure on plots of this size. Such violations are not only illegal but also pose significant risks to public safety.

Assistant City Planner Venkata Ramana from GHMC filed a formal complaint against the building’s owner, Swapna, and the contractor, Srinu. The Madhapur Police have since registered a case and launched further investigations into the matter.
While GHMC and HYDRAA officials moved quickly to demolish the dangerously tilted building, the property owner, Swapna, raised objections, emphasizing the financial hardship the demolition has caused her family. “This property is our only source of income, and we rely entirely on it for survival. I request financial assistance from the government to recover from this loss,” she stated.
Real estate professionals have expressed concern over the growing issue of illegal constructions in the area. Satish Reddy, a local real estate expert, criticized the widespread violations of building regulations. “The rule allows only G+1 constructions on 50-60 square yards, but the tilted building was constructed as a G+4 on just 60 square yards. These violations endanger lives, yet people expect compensation when things go wrong,” he said.
Another expert, Ramu, pointed out that many buildings in the area are being constructed without setbacks and rising up to 5-6 floors. He noted that the narrow roads in Siddiquinagar exacerbate the risk in case of emergencies. “If a fire were to break out, it would be impossible for fire engines to access these buildings,” he warned.
The incident has highlighted the urgent need for stricter enforcement of building codes and regulations in Siddiquinagar and other similar areas, as the risk of illegal constructions continues to threaten public safety.
