Hyderabad: On the occasion of 192nd Jayanthi of Mahatma Jyotirao Phule, senior BJP leader and former Union minister Bandaru Dattatraya today paid floral tributes at Phule’s statue installed near Ali Café in Golnaka area on Thursday morning.
Speaking on the occasion, Dattatraya said Mahatma Phule was born on April 11, 1827 in Katgun village under Khatav taluk in Satara district of Maharashtra State. He said Mahatma Jyotirao Phule was a social revolutionary and relentlessly fought against the heinous practice of untouchability, for equality and uplift of backward classes and women.
Dattatraya said Mahatma Phule started “Satyashodana Samaj” in 1873 and started schools for women and organized welfare programs. He had also vehemently condemned social evils and successfully removed them, Dattatraya added. (NSS)
