In the latest update regarding Kangana Ranaut, the Chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women, Swati Maliwal has written to President Ram Nath Kovind to withdraw the Padma Shri Award from Kangana Ranaut. She has also demanded the registration of an FIR against the actress about her latest comments on the 1947 independence.

In the letter addressed to the President, Maliwal wrote that the great freedom fighters of India like Mahatma Gandhi, Bhagat Singh, and many others had sacrificed their lives to bring freedom to the country. And only because of their sacrifices, the nation got its freedom from British rule. And Ranaut’s statement has hurt the sentiments of many Indians.
She wrote that the statement is seditious in nature. She further added that the remarks were not only derogatory in nature but also completely disregarded and insulted the sacrifices made by the freedom fighters.

Maliwal in her tweets has expressed her opinion against Ranaut’s remarks against the 1947 independence. In the tweet, she said that the Kangana Ranaut had mocked the martyrdom of Fandhi, Bhagat Singh, and many other freedom fighters along with millions of other people.
“She needs treatment, not rewards,” wrote Maliwal on Twitter.

1947 Independence Was “Bheek”
This comes after in a recent TV show, Kangana Ranaut described that the independence India had won from the British rule was “bheek” (alms). She continued and said that India gained true independence in 2014.
Her inflammatory remarks have again outraged reactions from different groups across the country. Following her remarks, many groups across India have demanded her to be stripped off her national awards. Many celebrities have also slammed her for the same.
She later claimed to return her Padma Shri Award if anybody could prove her statement regarding the “bheek” remark wrong.
