Delhi man steals cab, escapes with woman passenger inside

The national capital saw an absurd robbery when a man stole a taxi cab and drove away, with the woman passenger still sitting in it on 29th July.

After a dramatic and quick-witted chase by the police, the man was tracked down and caught. The carjacker was arrested after two constables ingeniously informed the police stationed ahead of the stolen taxi’s route about the incident. The accused still tried to dash the car in a road divider to run on foot. However, he met his fate when the cops managed to tackle his speed and catch him.

To praise the intelligence and quick work of the two constables, the Deputy Commissioner of Police of Delhi, Monika Bhardwaj announced that the brave cops, Pawan and Anil, who helped arrest the carjacker will be rewarded.

He said that their actions also ensured the safety and protection of the lady inside the cab who was sick.

The carjacker has been identified as 28 year old, Prince Sharma, who lives in Delhi’s Mahendra Park.

According to the police, the incident started when Noor Ahamed, the cab driver who filed the complaint, parked his taxi near the Gandhi Vihar CNG fuelling stop located in North Delhi in order to buy a beverage for the unwell woman passenger in his taxi.

After returning to his cab with the cold drink, Mr Ahmed reportedly noticed a man standing near his cab. He thrashed Mr Ahmed suddenly and escaped with his cab, the shocked passenger still very much seated inside it. Mr Ahmed immediately ra behind his car trying to stop the man while the woman passenger too shouted to inform the pedestrians and police about the robbery.

The ruckus alerted the two constables who were positioned at the Ring Road for their highway duty. Mr Ahmed informed them of them of his stolen cab and that the man drove it towards the Delhi BurarriChowk area.

These patrolling cops chased the Xcent taxi and contacted the picked staff stationed at ITI, Dheerpur, the area where the carjacker was about to reach. The Wazirabad police, along with the picket staff, surrounded the robber as he tried to ram the vehicle in a road divider. Next, he started running off the stolen car and managed to stay away from the hands of the chasing police for 200-300 mts before getting caught.

DCP Bhardwaj said, “He was arrested after being chased for about 200-300 metres.”

The carjacker has been arrested and will be punished accordingly after bringing him before the court. The woman passenger was recovered safely while the car will be handed over the Mr Ahmed.
