Delhi To Face Water Shortage From May 6 to May 8

Amidst the rising surge in the Covid 19 cases in India and the alarming shortage of Covid 19 drugs and medical oxygen supply, many parts of Delhi are facing water shortage from May 6 to May 8 this year.

Delhi Faces Dip In Raw Water Supply

As per the latest reports, Delhi Jal Board (DJB) issued a notice on Wednesday. They said that the release of raw water by Haryana into Yamuna water production has been curtailed from the water treatment plants at Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla.

The notice reported that the water level at Wazirabad had fallen to 667.20 against the standard level of 674.5 feet. The DJB said that due to the depletion of levels at the Wazirabad Pond and the reduction in the release of raw water, the water production has been put on halt at the water treatment plans. Following which Delhi will face a water shortage on May 6 to May 8 or until the pond level improves to the standard.

The areas that are likely to be affected are Civil Lines, Kamla Nagar, Shakti Nagar, Karol Bagh, NDMC areas, Old and New Rajinder Nagar, East Patel Nagar, West Patel Nagar, Baljeet Nagar, Prem Nagar, Inderpuri and many other adjoining areas.

Some of the areas of South Delhi will also be impacted like Greater Kailash, South Extension, Govindpuri, Tughlaqabad, Sangam Vihar, Prahladpur, Kalkaji, Ambedkar Nagar and adjoining areas. The water shortage will further be faced by the other parts of Delhi like Delhi Gate, Subhash Park. Model Town. Gulabi Bagh, Jahangirpuri, Moolchand, Ramlila Ground, and some parts of Cantonment areas.

DJB Moves To Supreme Court

Addressing the issue of water shortage, DJB reportedly saw the concern a month ago. Following this, the Vice Chairman of Delhi Jal Board Raghav Chaddha claims that they had written to Haryana Ministers multiple times but no resolution was offered.

Later, DJB moves to the Supreme Court to inform that there has been a major water supply shortage from both Punjab and Haryana. This would not only hamper the lives of the common man in the national capital but also the Covid 19 hospitals.
