New Delhi: With the increasing cases in the capital city, the healthcare architecture is facing inadequacy to admit all the patients. As such, a residential society of Delhi has come forward to help the coronavirus patients by converting a part of their building into isolation centres.
The city housing society has set up it’s own facility for patients with mild to moderate symptoms. The residents made this decision to battle the rapid spread of the deadly virus.
The action has been carried out under the initiative of the Federation of CGHS, Dwarka. As part of an introductory phase, one of the apartment’s office hall has been transformed into a six bed and another four bed isolation centre. The four-bed isolation centre in Neelachal Apartments, Sector 4, Dwarka was inaugurated by District Magistrate, South-West, Rahul Singh.
“Keeping in mind the increasing number of cases in the city, the residents of the society voluntarily came forward with an idea of establishing isolation centres for stable Covid-19 patients with mild or moderate symptoms,” Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Dwarka, Chandra Shekhar said.
“To meet any medical emergency, we will provide doctors on call immediately and would take further necessary action. If the health of a person in an isolation centre worsens and he or she needs to be admitted to a hospital, then arrangements will be made immediately,” he added.
Akash Khatri, the President of the Neelachal Apartments resident association said that the thought to establish isolation centres after noticing the scarcity of beds in covid-19 hospitals and also the exorbitant fees being charged in private-run hospitals.
The four-bed isolation centre will provide all the required medical attention to the patients who have tested positive for the virus. “The isolation centre is equipped with medical supplies, such as oxygen cylinders, oximeters, thermal scanner, masks, gloves, and personal protective equipment (PPE) kits as well as a separate toilet,” Mr. Khatrisaid.
He further said that the society has asked the administration to grant them with provisions of medical attenders like doctors and nurses to keep a tab on the health of the patients who will be staying in these facilities.
“Some local doctors have also volunteered to help us if required,” he noted.
Delhi has overpowered Tamil Nadu and become the second worst-hit state in India with 62,655 cases. According to the latest update by the Union Health Ministry, 2,233 deaths have been recorded due to the infection so far in the national capital.
Moreover, Delhi residents are constantly facing rejection from private and government hospitals for admitting their patients who have been tested positive. People are also seen complaining about the lack of testing even when they have all the symptoms for the disease.
