Left deserted after the new structure was constructed, the old library building at Ambedkar Nagar in Rajendranagar is now posing a grave risk to the people living around as severe cracks that developed over the walls have turned it into vulnerable for any calamity.
Built in the year 1975 under United Andhra Pradesh in a serene atmosphere at Premavathipet area Rajendranagar, the old library has served almost 47 years before being thrown into oblivion.
Standing on the rear side of the new building, this old and dilapidated structure wears a deserted look while the walls are about to fall due to development of severe cracks that pose a grave risk to nearby people, especially the children regularly seen playing around the open area of the old library side.
The gradually weathering structure overpowered by unwanted shrubs with penetrating roots deepening the void of the cracks making it a complete thalthan part of the building that endangers the lives living across the obsolete edifice.
It is said that, after setting a foundation stone in the year 2009 by the then Minister Sabitha Indira Reddy for a new library building the new structure took almost three years to get into shape in 2012. Since then, the old library building was closed and left in shambles.
The old building was now turned into a junkyard with heaps and trash piled up around the structure while the furniture left in the portion drowned into dust and dirt. Though the structure was bolted from outside, the window from a narrow lane provides a clear insight into a messy state that developed inside.
“The walls are completely damaged due to cracks and will fall apart if measures to repair or restoration were not taken immediately. Despite the issue being raised more than one time with the Zilla Grandhalaya Samstha that oversees the libraries in the state, now correctional measures were taken up yet to resolve the issue,” Rued N.Prasad, a local resident.
