Dip in TG TET 2025 Registrations Signals Waning Interest in Teaching Careers

Interest in the teaching profession appears to be on the decline in Telangana, as registrations for the upcoming Telangana Teacher Eligibility Test (TG TET) 2025 have seen a sharp drop. According to the School Education Department, only 1,83,653 candidates registered for the June 2025 session, marking a significant decrease compared to previous years.

The latest numbers reveal a downward trend — more than 1.92 lakh fewer applications were received compared to the January 2025 and June 2024 exams. The steady decline has been noticeable over the last three sessions: from 4,78,055 applications in 2023, the number fell to 2,86,386 in June 2024, and then slightly dropped to 2,75,773 in January 2025.

This time, 63,261 candidates applied for Paper-I, which qualifies teachers for Classes I to V. For Paper-II, which covers eligibility to teach Classes VI to VIII, 1,20,392 applications were received. In the January exam, 94,335 had registered for Paper-I and 1,81,438 for Paper-II — highlighting a clear reduction in participation.

One of the key reasons behind the fall in numbers may be the recent extension of the TET certificate’s validity from seven years to a lifetime. As a result, many aspirants, unless aiming to improve scores, no longer feel the need to reappear for the test.

Meanwhile, the department has allowed applicants to make corrections to their forms on the official website https://schooledu.telangana.gov.in until May 3. The TG TET 2025 will be conducted online between June 15 and 30, with a detailed exam schedule to be announced soon.

The latest figures raise questions about the future appeal of the teaching profession among youth in the State, prompting education officials and policymakers to consider measures to revive interest.
