Effigy of Owaisi Burnt Due to ‘Jai Palestine’ Slogan

Members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal staged a protest in New Delhi by burning effigies of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi at his residence on 34 Ashoka Road.

This demonstration was in response to Owaisi’s ‘Jai Palestine’ slogan during his oath-taking in the Lok Sabha. The incident comes after earlier acts of vandalism where unknown individuals splattered black ink on the MP’s residence in objection to his statement.

Owaisi, while taking his oath as MP, invoked slogans such as ‘Jai Palestine’, ‘Jai MIM’, ‘Jai BHIM’, ‘Jai Telangana’, and ‘Takbeer Allah hu Akbar’. This action faced strong criticism from BJP and Hindutva supporters, some of whom protested by displaying posters depicting Owaisi’s image on a pig, along with messages urging him to leave for Palestine. Other posters were affixed to his address plate with slogans like “I stand with Israel” and “Bharat Matha ki jai”, portraying Owaisi in a derogatory manner.

Recently, Owaisi also commented on the lynching of a Muslim youth in Gujarat, urging the Gujarat police to conduct an impartial investigation into the matter. He expressed concern over reports that members of the Kshatriya community, allegedly linked to a BJP MLA, were pressuring the police to exclude certain names from the list of accused. Owaisi assured support to the victim’s family and emphasized the need for justice, criticizing what he described as a trend of sympathetic treatment towards perpetrators of such crimes by those in power.
