Eight gates of Himayath and Four of Osman Sagar lifted to feed Musi River

Following copious rains coupled with heavy inflows, the authorities at Osman Sagar and Himayath Sagar keep on lifting the gates one after another to release the pressure from the reservoirs as inrush into reservoirs keep moving in putting the officials on their toes for two weeks.

Since Monday, the authorities have lifted six gates of Himayath Sagar in addition to already existing two gates while also opened two more gates at Osman Sagar making it total four to release the water into Muri River.

According to officials, a total eight crest gates were opened so far at Himayath Sagar upto two feet releasing 5600 cusecs of water as the reservoir is receiving 5000 cusecs of inflows from catchment areas. After lifting one gate on Monday night in addition to already existing one gate, the authorities have opened two more crest gates today at 6 am, two at 8.00 am and two more at 11.00 making it a total either out of a total 17 doors.

Similarly, four gates were lifted upto three feet at Osman Sagar since Sunday to release excess inflows through the course of Musi River. However, much to the surprise of everyone, Osman Sagar Lake too is receiving heavy inflows this time as against the widely believed perception that it was bereft of such inflows due to drought like situation at catchment areas for years. The reservoir is receiving 1400 cusecs of inflows while the authorities lifted up four gates upto three feet to release 1360 cusecs of water into Musi River.

So far, a total of 12 gates of both the reservoirs have been lifted to feed Musi River. However, according to sources, as the rains coupled with heavy inflows keep on mounting pressure on the Lakes the authorities may force to lift a few more crest gates as and when they feel it appropriate to let loose the load.
