In preparation for the upcoming Telangana Assembly elections on November 30, the Election Commission of India has assigned the YSR Telangana Party (YSRTP), led by YS Sharmila, a distinguishing ‘binocular’ ballot symbol.
YS Sharmila, the daughter of former Congress chief minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy, is poised to usher in a transformative “Rajanna Rajyam” in the state through her political party, having recently embarked on a 3,800-kilometer state-wide tour to connect with local communities and understand their issues.
Despite her party’s efforts, no candidates have been nominated for the next elections. The party had asked interested leaders to apply to run for office, but the response has been somewhat slow in the two weeks since the announcement.
Notably, YS Sharmila’s efforts to unite the YSRTP with the Congress party in order to get a few seats have not produced the desired results. Nonetheless, she is committed to running candidates in all 119 constituencies in the next state elections.
The Election Commission’s ‘binocular’ sign emphasizes the YSR Telangana Party’s distinct character and objectives as it pursues electoral involvement in Telangana.
