Election commission of India instructed the Chief electoral offices of all states and union territories in a written letter not to use loudspeakers and Whatsapp during the specified timings. In the instructions, ECI Secretary N T Bhutia pointed out that loudspeakers are prohibited for election campaigns between 10 pm to 6 am .
The commission while modifying its letter dated April 20, 2018, has also said there will be a prohibition on campaign related activity, including door-to-door campaign, SMS, Whatsapp, calls and usage of loudspeakers during the specified timings ( 10 pm to 6 am).
” it is necessary to respect the privacy of the citizens and reduce disturbance to public life in general, the EC said.
The EC also directed the Chief Electoral Officers to communicate the instructions to the district election officers, returning officers and other election-related authorities and also to the state units national parties, recognized state parties and registered unrecognized parties in all the states and union territories.
