Hyderabad Police warns residents about cybercrime

Several cyber-crime police departments in Hyderabad have issued warnings to the public about cybercriminals posing as delivery boys.

According to the police, fraudsters are calling up people after gaining their phone numbers from public platforms and informing them that a parcel they ordered has been delivered.

Fraudsters claim to have scanned the parcel with their phones when the victim says they did not book any products. As soon as the victim enters his number, he receives a text message with an OTP in it. The delivery boy apologizes for the inconvenience before leaving the house or office.

It takes the victim a few minutes to realize his bank account is debited with a large amount even though they didn’t make any purchases. In addition to collecting the OTP, fraudsters conduct online transactions without the knowledge of the account holder and transfer money to different accounts swiftly, according to a Cybercrime official.

All the parcels contain boxes stuffed with waste paper. People are urged to notify police control rooms on Dial 100 if they come across such fraudsters.
