Five liter glass jar at petrol pumps soon to check quality & quantity

Hyderabad: Legal Metrology Department was making arrangements to ensure quality and quantity of fuel at petrol bunks to be more transparent. A new five liter standard glass jar is implemented which allows consumers, petrol bunk owners and officials to have a clear view of the oil. Implementation of 5 ltrs standard glass jar is to make more transparent and accountability in quality and quantity checking.

Five liter metal measures were used to verify or calibrate the volume of fuel at retail outlets. Metal measures are non-transparent, always raising doubts of accuracy of the measure. Metal measures can be easily tampered with. Metal used for measures are prone to dimensional changes with change in temperature. This standard glass jar made from USP Type 1 Class-A will give 100% accurate quantity, with no chance of tampering.

Controller for Legal Metrology Department Akun Sabharwal inspected the new fabricated five-liter jar in a meeting with Greater Hyderabad Petrol and Diesel Dealers’ Association, HPCL, BPCL Oil Companies representatives, held on Monday at Civil Supplies Bhavan. The Controller said the dealers themselves should get these glass jar, after compulsorily getting clearance certificate from Legal Metrology Department.

Telangana Petrol, Diesel Association President Rajeev Amaram, Greater Hyderabad Chief Secretary Amarender Reddy, HPCL DGM (Retail) Rajesh, Manager T. Shravan attended the meeting. (NSS)
