Flood Damage Assessment: Kirshna Reddy Leads Central Team to Telangana

According to Union Minister of Tourism G Kishan Reddy, an Inter-Ministerial Central Team (IMCT) would visit Telangana on Monday to inspect the damage caused by floods caused by recent heavy rains. He chastised the Telangana administration for being “ignorant” of the gravity of the crisis and failing to use monies, including Rs 900 crore donated by the Centre under the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF), for relief initiatives.

The IMCT will be directed by Kunal Satyarthi, Advisor to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and will include members from different ministries and departments, including Agriculture, Finance, Jal Shakti, Power, Road Transport and Highways, and the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC).

At least 18 persons have died as a result of rain-related incidents in Telangana over the last week. As rains has ceased in many sections of the state, relief efforts have gathered traction.Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is closely watching relief efforts and has spoken with ministers and the Chief Secretary to discuss the situation.

The Central team’s visit is intended to assess the flood damage, and additional trips may be scheduled based on the state government’s detailed memorandum submission. Heavy rains during the last week flooded low-lying areas and damaged agricultural crops in numerous parts of the state. The assessment of the Central team will be critical in organizing relief operations and delivering required assistance to flood-affected areas.
