Food Safety Inspections Uncover Violations in Kukatpally and Balanagar Restaurants

The Commissioner of Food Safety for Telangana conducted thorough inspections at several restaurants across Kukatpally and Balanagar areas, revealing multiple violations.

At Sri Lakshmi Grand Udupi Hotel near BBR Hospital in Balanagar, officials discovered rotten and damaged carrots, promptly discarding them. Cobwebs were found above the grinding area, and the premises were observed to be untidy. Insect-proof screens were missing, allowing pests to enter freely, and the kitchen doors were not properly fitted.

Moreover, some Food Business Operators were operating without valid licenses, and packed parathas lacked proper labeling. Additionally, several food handlers were found without necessary headgear, gloves, and aprons. Medical fitness certificates for food handlers and essential pest control records were notably absent.

Similarly, at Jampanas Vaarahi Hotel in Kukatpally Y Junction, frozen chicken was improperly stored contrary to label instructions. The kitchen lacked proper insect-proof screens and tightly fitting doors, essential for preventing pest entry. Despite operating with a registration certificate, the restaurant’s turnover necessitated a full license.

Furthermore, food handlers were observed without mandatory protective gear, and the second kitchen was exposed to the outside environment without adequate covering against dust and flies. Once again, critical documents such as medical fitness certificates for food handlers and pest control records were missing.

During inspections at Shree Raghavendra Bhavan in Alluri Trade Centre, Kukatpally, officials uncovered expired packed papads and seized 10 kilograms of Maharaja Brand Chopra due to missing manufacturing dates. The Food Business Operator was found operating with an expired license, and several food handlers were inadequately attired.

The kitchen area was deemed unhygienic with water stagnation issues, and improper storage of food inside refrigerators was noted. Essential records for food handler fitness and premises’ pest control were conspicuously absent.

The inspections underscored significant lapses in food safety protocols at these establishments, highlighting the need for strict adherence to hygiene standards and regulatory compliance in the interest of public health and safety.
