Hyderabad: Keeping in view the difficulty faced by the pedestrian traffic, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has planned to construct Foot over bridges at various locations considering the frequent accidents occurring due to pedestrian-vehicle interactions.
The project also prioritized development of modern foot over bridges with elevators / escalators not only to enable the aged or persons with disabilities but also to encourage the common public to use FOBs instead of braving the onward traffic to save time.
A Consultant, M/s IIDA Ltd was appointed to assist GHMC from Concept to Commencement of the project for a total of 50 FOBs at various locations across the city.
In the first phase, M/s Raus Constructions Pvt. Ltd was awarded to take up the construction of FOBs at five locations under EPC (Engineering Procurement Construction ) f which three FOBs have already been constructed (near Tippu Khan Bridge, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Banjara Hills and National Police Academy). Work is in progress at Mahaveer Hospital and is scheduled to be completed by September 2018. The Foot over Bridge at Sarojini Devi Eye Hospital is yet to be started as land acquisition of private property is in process and also negotiation is going on with Mosque Committee for assessing and payment of compensation for mosque property.
Further, FOBs have been taken up under PPP (Public Private Partnership) mode by M/s Prakash Arts at 2 locations of which the FOB at Muffakhamjah College is completed. For another FOB, suitable location is being explored to propose change of site in view of SRDP work at Shilparamam.
An additional 9 locations have been taken up for development of FOBs under PPP mode (with limited advertisements) by two agencies M/s GMR Ads and M/s Adways of which the FOB at Temple Bus Stop, Kukatpally is completed. At seven locations, the construction of FOBs are at various stages of progress and change of site is proposed at one locations.
In addition, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority is taking up construction of Foot over Bridges at 5 locations.
Furthermore, the government had recently accorded administrative sanction for construction of 52 Foot over bridges and 8 skyways at various locations in GHMC. The foot over bridges and skyways have been divided into four suitable packages and tenders have been called for the same.(NSS)
