Former SC and ST Commission Chairman Errolla Srinivas Arrested Amidst Controversy

Former Chairman of the State SC and ST Commission, Errolla Srinivas, was arrested by the police from his residence in West Marredpally on Thursday morning. Srinivas is accused of obstructing the duties of the Jubilee Hills inspector last month, an allegation he vehemently denies.

The police arrived at Srinivas’s residence at approximately 5 am on Thursday to execute the arrest, but according to sources close to the former chairman, no arrest warrant or notice had been issued, raising questions about the legality of the action. As the news of his arrest spread, several leaders from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), including party officials and members of its legal cell, gathered outside Srinivas’s home, demanding that the police produce a warrant or leave. This led to a heated exchange between the BRS cadre and the police, as party workers tried to prevent the officers from entering Srinivas’s flat.

Despite the standoff, the police successfully arrested Srinivas and took him to the police station. According to BRS sources, the arrest was carried out in an unjust manner and without adhering to legal protocol.

Speaking to the media following the arrest, Errolla Srinivas condemned the charges against him, calling them false and politically motivated. He accused the Congress government of using the police to stifle opposition voices and declared that he would continue to challenge the government’s policies and false promises. He also questioned the timing of the police action, highlighting that the arrest took place in the early hours, and expressed concern over the emotional distress caused to his family.

“I will continue to hold the government accountable for its failed policies and unfulfilled promises,” Srinivas said. “This arrest is nothing but an attempt to intimidate and silence me.” The arrest has sparked strong reactions from the BRS leadership. Party working president KT Rama Rao, senior MLA T Harish Rao, and other party leaders swiftly condemned the incident, calling for Srinivas’s immediate release. They accused the Congress government of using strategic arrests to prevent BRS leaders from seeking justice in the courts, especially during the holiday season when legal recourse may be delayed.

Rama Rao and T Harish Rao both expressed concerns that the Congress government was deliberately timing the arrests of BRS leaders during holidays, making it difficult for them to approach the courts for relief.

The arrest of Srinivas comes shortly after the detention of BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy in connection with the same case. Reddy was arrested earlier and subsequently released on bail. As the situation develops, it remains to be seen whether legal challenges will be mounted against the arrest and if the police will respond to the criticism over their methods.
