Hyderabad: Forum For Good Governance (FGG) today urged the governor of the state to take steps for the appointment of State Election Commissioner (SEC) in the state. It said that the post remained vacant for the last six months.
The secretary of the Forum For Good Governance M. Padmanabha Reddy submitted a representation to the governor of the state on the issue. In his representation, he told the governor that the post of the secretary of the commission was also vacant due to the superannuation of the existing commissioner. He told the governor that the appointment of the SEC and secretary were very important by keeping in view of the elections for GHMC, Warangal and Khammam municipal corporations and by-elections in various municipalities and municipal corporations of the state.
Referring to article 243za of the Indian constitution, he told the governor that the processes like preparation of voters list, reservations towards and training to polling staff should be held under the supervision of the commission. He said that it would require a lot of time to complete these processes before issuing the election schedule. Citing article 243A of the Indian constitution he said that the SEC would be appointed by the governor of the state. He urged the governor to take steps for the appointment of the commissioner at the earliest.
