Four people have been arrested in Telangana’s Mancherial district for reportedly torturing a 30-year-old Dalit man and a 19-year-old child they suspected of stealing a goat in Yapal village near Mandamarri town.
A video of the incident, which showed the victims tied up and hanging upside down in a shed, quickly went popular on social media. The defendants allegedly tortured the victims, known as Kiran and Teja, accusing them of sheep theft. They chained them in a shed next to a sheep farm and burned firewood beneath them to create smoke.
Both victims were tortured and suffered minor injuries before being freed by their captors. Kiran, on the other hand, did not return home, forcing his family to file a complaint with the police.

Following the complaint, the police detained K Ramulu, his wife Swaroopa, their son Srinivas, and another agricultural worker, Naresh. The search for Kiran involves four police squads.

The suspects have been charged with unlawful imprisonment, murder attempt, and violations of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Ramulu, Swaroopa, and Srinivas were remanded in judicial custody and transported to Adilabad jail.
Despite legal protections, this incident underscores the continued issues of caste-based violence and prejudice against Dalits in India.
