Four Arrested in Car Rental Fraud, 21 Stolen Cars Worth Rs 2.5 Crore Recovered

The Raidurgam police have arrested four individuals involved in a car rental fraud, cheating car owners who had lent their vehicles for rent. The police have recovered 21 cars, valued at Rs 2.5 crore, from their possession. The arrested individuals include Jupudi Usha, a resident of Telecom Nagar; Thudumula Mallesh of Shaikpet; Sagar Patil; and Jamane Anil Kumar, both from Attapur.

The recovered vehicles include a variety of high-demand models, such as four Mahindra Thars, ten Maruti Suzuki Ertigas, three Maruti Suzuki Swifts, and one each of a Hyundai Venue, Toyota Innova Crysta, Hyundai I20, and Hyundai Grand I-10. These cars, in total, have a market value of Rs 2.5 crore, highlighting the scale of the operation and the extent of the fraud.

According to the police, the fraudulent scheme began when car owners approached Jupudi Usha to inquire about the whereabouts of their vehicles. Despite their repeated efforts, Usha failed to respond to their requests for the return of the cars. As a result, one of the car owners filed a complaint with the Raidurgam police, prompting an investigation into the matter.

Upon further investigation, the police discovered that Usha and her associates had not only taken the vehicles from their owners but had also rented them out to various individuals in the Bidar and Bhalki districts of Karnataka. The accused had been using xerox copies of the Registration Certificates (RCs) of the vehicles to facilitate these illegal rentals.

The police suspect that the accused had been running this fraudulent operation for some time, taking advantage of unsuspecting car owners and renters. The fraudsters targeted car rental arrangements by exploiting the trust of car owners, only to deceive them and profit from leasing out the vehicles without the owners’ consent.

Following the arrests, the police are continuing their investigation to determine if there are more victims of the scam and if any other individuals were involved in the operation. The 21 vehicles recovered are being held by the police as evidence while further inquiries are conducted.

This arrest serves as a reminder to individuals who rent their cars to ensure that proper legal documentation and agreements are in place before lending out their vehicles. Authorities are urging car owners to exercise caution when engaging in car rental arrangements to avoid falling prey to such fraudulent schemes.
