GHMC Demolishes Illegal Structures Encroaching Rukn-ud-Daula Lake in Bahadurpura

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) carried out a significant demolition operation on Saturday, targeting illegal structures constructed by encroaching on the Rukn-ud-Daula lake in Shastripuram, Bahadurpura. The action was part of a broader effort to reclaim and restore land around the historic water body.

Early in the morning, GHMC teams, supported by Cyberabad police officials, arrived at Shastripuram Kings Colony in Bahadurpura. The police established a security perimeter around the area, preventing unauthorized access. Heavy earthmoving equipment was deployed to dismantle the unauthorized buildings that had encroached upon the full tank level (FTL) of the centuries-old lake.

The operation was conducted under tight security, with police barring locals and outsiders from approaching the demolition site. Activists and community members who have long advocated for the preservation of Rukn-ud-Daula lake were concerned about the encroachments threatening the lake’s ecological balance.

In a notable incident, Bahadurpura MLA Mohd Mubeen was detained by police when he attempted to intervene and halt the demolition. His detainment underscores the tense situation surrounding the operation, as officials prioritized the removal of the encroachments to prevent further illegal constructions.

The demolition is part of GHMC’s ongoing efforts to restore and protect water bodies and public lands from unauthorized use. The Rukn-ud-Daula lake, an important historical and environmental landmark, has faced increasing threats from land grabbers and encroachers, leading to significant concerns among environmentalists and local residents alike.

The GHMC’s action is expected to pave the way for further restoration projects aimed at preserving the integrity and historical significance of Hyderabad’s water bodies.
