GHMC Intensifies Efforts to Combat Dengue Surge in Hyderabad

As cases of dengue continue to rise in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) area, officials from the Entomology Department have strategized a comprehensive action plan to tackle the disease effectively. Led by GHMC Commissioner Amrapali Kata and Additional Commissioner (Health) N Ravi Kiran, a review meeting was convened focusing on ‘Dengue Control in GHMC’.

According to the plan outlined during the meeting, Entomology Department workers have been mobilized to cover every colony across the city within a span of six days. This initiative aims to address a total of 4,846 colonies identified as potential breeding grounds for mosquitoes responsible for spreading dengue.

“The priority is to conduct anti-larval operations in all dengue-affected areas with utmost precision,” stated a GHMC official. Over 1,100 workers from the Entomology wing are actively engaged in these efforts, ensuring thorough coverage and effective control measures.

Key strategies discussed include the release of Gambusia fishes in all mosquito breeding sites, a natural predator of mosquito larvae, and the implementation of Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities. These educational initiatives will involve the participation of school children and colleges every Friday to raise awareness about dengue prevention and control measures.

“The involvement of the community, especially through educational outreach and active participation in mosquito control efforts, is crucial in combating the spread of dengue,” emphasized officials during the meeting.

The Entomology Department, along with GHMC authorities, remains committed to intensifying efforts and ensuring the city’s preparedness to mitigate the impact of dengue during this critical period.
