In a series of crackdowns aimed at ensuring public health and hygiene, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has raided several meat and chicken shops, pet stores, and dairy farms across the city. The raids, conducted by the GHMC’s veterinary department, uncovered numerous violations related to the sale of non-vegetarian products and hygiene standards, leading to several show-cause notices being issued to the managements of these establishments.
The inspections focused primarily on meat stores located in the Charminar, Secunderabad, and Khairtabad zones. The veterinary department examined a variety of shops selling meat and chicken, issuing fines and legal action against those found in violation of the GHMC Act 1955. The authorities prosecuted the erring establishments under various sections of the Act, including 539, 521, 622, 548, 487, and 596.
Among the most significant violations were the sale of meat and chicken without valid licenses, as well as failure to meet the necessary hygiene standards required for food safety. The raids were initiated in response to multiple consumer complaints regarding the sale of rotten meat, raising concerns about public health. In their inspections, officials also checked if the shops had proper recognition and whether they adhered to the prescribed hygiene norms.

The GHMC has emphasized that the enforcement of these regulations is crucial not only to protect consumer interests but also to ensure the safety and cleanliness of food products available to the public. The veterinary department has assured that further raids and inspections will continue across other zones to prevent the sale of substandard food items.
The ongoing efforts by the GHMC are part of the city’s larger initiative to improve food safety standards, maintain cleanliness, and enforce regulations that safeguard consumers’ health. The authorities have urged all food-related businesses to comply with the rules and warned that strict action will be taken against those found violating the law.
