GHMC summer camp receiving huge response

Summer sports camps have provided a breath of fresh air for children throughout the city. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has received a tremendous response and participation of children in sports and games through its sports and arts camps held across all zones. With summer vacation in full swing, parents and children are looking for summer camps that offer activities that interest them.

To meet the growing demand, the civic body has been providing children with a variety of options ranging from regular favorite indoor and outdoor games to swimming, crafts, and fitness, among others.

GHMC began 37-day summer camps for children aged 6 to 16 in 44 sports across the GHMC limits. The corporation appointed 77 part-time coaches, 712 honorarium coaches, and maintains 521 playgrounds, 26 sports complexes, 12 swimming pools, 5 tennis courts, 11 skating rinks, and 135 modern gym fitness centers throughout the city to accomplish this.

These camps have received a tremendous response year after year. Last year, approximately 40,000 children participated in various activities, and this year, parents and children have shown the same level of interest in these camps, according to a senior officer at GHMC. “A nominal fee of Rs 50 is charged for cricket, tennis, badminton and a fee of Rs 10 is charged for other games,” added the officer.

In the Charminar and LB Nagar zones, more than 200 students are being trained in cricket, and 1,000 students are being taught karate and other fitness activities. 120 students are being trained for javelin throw, high jump, and long jump in the Serilingampally and Kukatpally zones.

Volleyball and other sports are being taught to over 600 students in the Khairtabad zone and 200 students in the Secunderabad zone. Hockey, judo, cricket, basketball, archery, badminton, and boxing are among the other sports offered at the GHMC Summer Camp 2023, which concludes on May 31.

The current sports quiz competition, which began on May 8, will conclude on May 13. On Friday, a sports quiz was held in six zones to improve sports knowledge among students.

Corporator Bannala Geetha Praveen and Games Inspector Venkat Reddy presented prizes to the winning students at at LB Nagar Zone in Uppal Stadium. Furthermore, the tournaments will take place from May 15 to May 19. The closing ceremonies are also scheduled from May 26 to May 31.
