GHMC Takes Proactive Steps to Ensure Monsoon Safety in Hyderabad

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) emphasized its proactive approach to prevent accidents during the monsoon season. The city’s stormwater drainage network spans 1,302.98 kilometers, with major nalas covering 390 km. Of these, drains exceeding two meters total 115.72 km, while those below two meters extend to 368.18 km.

GHMC Commissioner Amrapali Kata has directed officials to prioritize safety measures, including the development of Sundarayya Park. Vulnerable points across the city have been identified to mitigate risks, with mesh coverings and danger warning boards installed around nalas.

Assistant engineers from the maintenance department have been assigned responsibility for specific sections of the drainage lines within their respective circles. A team of 203 nodal officers will oversee these efforts, ensuring continuous monitoring and prompt implementation of safety measures as needed.
