Hyderabad: The governor of the state Tamilisai Soundararajan today hoisted the national flag at a formal ceremony held in public gardens on the occasion of the 72nd Republic Day celebrations.
She also received the guard of honor on the occasion. Delivering her Republic Day address, Soundararajan said that it was a proud moment for all the people of Telangana state as it was implementing a plethora of innovative, unique, and people-oriented schemes and programs within a short span of time. She said that the state had carved a niche for itself in the history of the country.
She said that the state stood first and became unique in the country in several sectors due to the planned and systematic efforts of the state government during the past six and half years. She also said that the state had been providing inspiration to other states to emulate Telangana.

Commenting on the ongoing COVID-Vaccination drive, she said that the state government had started the year 2021 with a lot of optimism and added that the vaccination for the COVID-19 virus had been started and was being administered on a priority basis.
Tamilisai said that Prime Minister of the country Narendra Modi’s visit to city-based Bharat Biotech International Limited to review the development of indigenous COVID-19 vaccine “Covaxin” gave great impetus to quicken the process of the development of the vaccine.
“With the combined and well-coordinated efforts of the Government of India and the State Government, the spread of the virus was effectively contained. By strict implementation of the lockdown, and by offering the best medical treatment to the affected, the mortality rate in the state has been brought down to the lowest possible,” she said.

She also said that A record number of above 76 lakh tests were conducted across the state by setting up the centers even at the Mandal level. In the state 2 lakh tests were conducted for every 10 lakh population, as against a national average of 1.39 lakh tests, she noted. “Case fatality rate in the state is 0.54 percent as against the national rate of 1.4 percent. The recovery rate in the state is 98.24 percent as against the national rate of 96.8 percent. Thus, the state has been performing well in containing ill-effects of COVID-19,” she said while thanking all the frontline warriors, like Medical and Health department staff, police personnel, sanitation workers, journalists, other employees, and volunteers, who stood in the forefront in the fight against the COVID pandemic.
