The much awaited Exhibition-cum-Sale of mouth watering grape varieties at Grape Research Station Rajendranagar has formally thrown open today for the public.
It is said that over 60 wine, table, raisin and juice varieties of grapes have been put on display at the research station where people will be allowed to pluck the bunches by their own hands and taste it beside a chance to purchase the desired variety at the event. Apart from two juice varieties such as H-516 also known as (ARI 516) and Manjari Medika, a table variety called Manjari Shyama were also put on display.
Ahead of the opening of the exhibition, a study tour was organised for the students of a High School in Rajendranagar to allow them learn about the scientific throughput involved in propagation and pruning of different grape varieties.
Only last year, the Sri Konda Laxman Telangana State Horticultural University Grape Research Station (SKLTSHU) has been selected under the program launched by the Telangana State Council of Science and Technology (TSCOST). The program is aimed at provident the students from local government high school an opportunity to visit the station as part of the science day celebrations.
A day ahead of the formal opening of grape exhibition on Friday, the SKLTSHU Grape Research Station Rajendranagar celebrated ‘National Science Day’ wherein the students of class 9 from Budvel Government School were allowed to visit the station as study tour. The program was organised in coordination with National Council for Science and Technology Communication (NCSTC) and Telangana State Council of Science and Technology (TSCOST).
On this occasion, Dr.K.Venkat Laksmi, Scientist (Horticulture) and Head Grape Research Station, Rajendranagar welcome the students and the farmers having especialisation in growing grapes. The Students as well as grape growing farmers picked-up the scientific methods involved in growing different varieties of berries in the station.
During the event, different varieties of grapes were also put on display for the students as well as the grape growers while the experts taught them grafting, pruning and propagation techniques especially the method being used to preparing risins.
Dr.Suresh Kumar, Zonal Head Sri Konda Laxman Telangana State Horticultural University Grape Research Station Rajendranagar (SKLTSHU) was the chief Guest of the program.
