Gunshots Reported Near Guinea-Bissau Government Palace

As per the latest reports, a few automatic weapons shots were accounted for close to the Palace of the Government of Guinea-Bissau where a phenomenal gathering of the Council of Ministers was being held. The incident occurred on Tuesday evening, when the president, Umaro Sissoco Embalo, and the Prime Minister, Nuno Gomes Nabiam, were inside the structure.

The situation is under the control of the loyalist forces. President Embalo and Prime Minister Nabiam are protected, as indicated by a security source. There were reports of unidentified dead inside the government palace.

Around 1 p.m. nearby time, the popping of automatic weapons set off alarm among the populace. Up to this point, there is no report from the government palace, and nobody has emerged from this spot. Right now, there are steady developments of watches of outfitted troopers in military vehicles in the roads of the capital Bissau.

Since the news spread in the capital, in the downtown area, every one of the shops, cafés and banks have shut. Authorities and students have returned home.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), gave an assertion on Tuesday evening, saying the territorial alliance is following improvements in Guinea-Bissau with incredible concern described by military fire around the Palace of the Government.

ECOWAS denounces this upset endeavor and considers the military answerable for the actual trustworthiness of Umaro Sissoco Embalo and the individuals from his administration, it said. ECOWAS approaches the military to get back to their barracks and keep a republican posture, it added.
