Gyanvapi mosque survey Asaduddin Owaisi says : It’s a fountain, not a Shivling

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi on Monday denied the petitioner’s claim that a Shivling was found at the Gyanvapi mosque in Varanasi following the conclusion of the court-monitored survey. It is a fountain, not a Shivling. Every mosque has one.

How come the case was not raised by the commissioner? AIMIM chief A Owaisi on a petitioner’s claim that a ‘Shivling’ was found in Gyanvapi masjid: ” The order of sealing the spot is a violation of the 1991 Act.

Sohan Lal Arya, the Hindu petitioner in the case, alleged that the committee discovered a Shivling at the complex on the third day of the court-ordered videography survey that was conducted in Varanasi. As a result of the mosque survey, Arya announced that “conclusive evidence” has been gathered.

In this case, the Supreme Court is set to hear a plea seeking a stay on the survey of the Gyanvapi Mosque complex, tomorrow, May 17. A bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud will hear the plea of the Anjuman Intezamia Masajid Committee. The survey has been completed according to the Varanasi Civil Court’s order that the survey is conducted despite objections by mosque authorities.

According to the Varanasi court, the District Magistrate for Varanasi, Kaushal Raj Sharma, was ordered to protect the site where the Shivling was found by sealing it off and forbidding strangers from entering it. In its order, the court stated that Varanasi would be responsible for ensuring that the sealed area is secured by the DM, police commissioner, and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) commandant.

Initially, the civil court had appointed a court commissioner for the survey and videography of the site. That decision was challenged before the Allahabad High Court on April 21. The High Court’s dismissal of the appeal was subsequently challenged in the Supreme Court. The petition was filed by five women seeking permission for daily worship at the Shringar Gauri Temple, which is alleged to be situated inside the Gyanvapi Mosque.

In the following weeks, a civil court ordered the premises to be surveyed and videotaped. There is also a case pending in court since 1991 that contends the entire premises are owned by the Kashi Vishwanath Temple and that the Gyanvapi Mosque is only a portion of the complex. This case was filed by one Vijay Shankar Rastogi.

Rastogi also claimed that the Kashi Vishwanath Temple had been built over two thousand years ago and that the temple was destroyed by the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb. The survey was conducted in a free and unimpeded manner, says Advocate Vishal Singh, the special assistant commissioner in Varanasi appointed by the court.
