Telangana’s Finance Minister T Harish Rao on Monday urged the BJP and Congress to stop making baseless accusations and to implement Telangana’s development and welfare programs in other States.
He lashed out at BJP State president Bandi Sanjay Kumar, stating he is misguiding people during his padayatra, Harish Rao said this after laying the foundation stone for Rs 78 crore worth of development works, including a 390-bed hospital and T Diagnostic centre in the district on Monday.
Even though the Central government washed its hands of paddy procurement from Telangana, the State government was purchasing every grain produced in the State at an MSP of Rs 1,960 per quintal, Harish Rao noted, adding that farmers from neighbouring Karnataka were making vain attempts to sell their produce to the Telangana government in Narayanpet due to the State government’s MSP and timely procurement.
He questioned why Karnataka’s farmers would sell their stock to Telangana if the BJP government was procuring paddy.
In Telangana, the government extends 24-hour quality power to the farming community, which is in contrast to the six-hour power supply in BJP-ruled states. He also pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during an address in Mahabubnagar in 2014, had assured national status to the Palamuru Rangareddy Lift Irrigation (PRLI) scheme. Modi’s promise was made eight years ago, and the Central Government has yet to deliver on it. Interestingly, the BJP government granted national status to the Upper Bhadra Project in Karnataka and Polavaram in Andhra Pradesh, he added, appealing to the people to remember the Central Government’s discrimination against Telangana.

There has not been a single project sanctioned by the Central Government under the AP Reorganization Act. While a coach factory was approved in Kazipet, the BJP government set it up in Gujarat with an investment of Rs 22,000 crore, he said, adding, Next time, when the BJP leaders come here, question them about discrimination against Telangana.”
In response to the BJP’s claim that Telangana has helped rural local bodies with financial assistance through the Pattana and Palle Pragathi programs, the Minister said the Telangana government has spent a staggering Rs 11,711 crore. If the Centre is providing financial help, why are panchayats in other states lacking water tankers, trolleys, dumping areas, Vaikuntadhamams and other facilities?” the Minister asked.
Harish Rao said, “I urge Bandi Sanjay to put pressure on the Centre to sanction dues to Telangana and grant national status to PRLI.”
He criticised the Congress for failing to make any positive progress in erstwhile Mahabubnagar under former ministers Nagam Janardhan Reddy and DK Aruna. Despite being the Health Minister, Nagam Janardhan Reddy was unable to establish a single medical college when four were created by the TRS government in Palamuru.
